The creation of this new play environment replaces an obsolete Moses playground and integrates it within the vocabulary of Central Park, a national landmark designed by Olmstead. The hallmark of the park is the use of the natural setting to express the nature of play. The design concept builds upon the notion of the play environment as an extension of the Olmstead design rather than an intrusion upon it. The use of natural elements; wood, stone and water introduces the concept of play as an activity of nature. The activities in the play area include child operated water sluices, team swings, and a 30' carved granite slide which all interact to stimulate the physical, mental and social aspects of play activities.
